Morning Hymn 23
In the quiet outskirts of San Diego’s local mountains, where frosty mornings are as rare as a hidden treasure, there was a photographic quest that consumed my lens for years. The elusive shot? A bird's breath, dancing in the frigid air. It was no simple task. The ambient temperature had to waltz down to a crisp 32 degrees or lower, a rarity in our sun-soaked city.
But then, on this particular morning in the winter of 2021, nature decided to indulge my artistic pursuit by delivering a winter storm with enough moisture to dump a beautiful layer of snow. The thermometer plummeted to a finger-numbing 23 degrees. A chill hung in the air, and there, against the cold canvas of the dawn, a Red-Winged Blackbird made its grand entrance.
With bated breath—quite literally—I captured the crystalline exhale, a fleeting dance of warmth meeting winter's grasp. In that frozen moment, a story unfolded, etched in the delicate threads of nature's tapestry. It was a tale of patience, perseverance, and the serendipity that graces those who venture into the chilly embrace of the outdoors with a camera in hand.
I hope you enjoy this image as much as I did creating it.
